Anti-Oxidant Scanning
Prevention: Dentistry, Nutrition and Anti-Aging
In the last decade it’s been established
scientifically that if your gums bleed chronically
you have a greater chance of heart attack, stroke,
diabetes, pancreatic cancer and other horrors.
One of the reasons for bleeding gums is poor
nutrition. For example, the British sailors who
ate limes kept their teeth while the non-limeys lost
theirs from scurvy (Vitamin C deficiency)
ravaged bleeding gums. While we don’t see a lot
of scurvy on the Upper West Side, we do see a lot
of bleeding gums. Poor nutrition, including the
lack of a minimum of 7 servings of colored fruits
and vegetables a day, leads to low anti-oxidant
levels in the gum tissues. Low antioxidants in the
gums leads to inflammation and bleeding. Low
antioxidant levels in other cells in your body lead
to premature aging and chronic diseases such as
arthritis and even cancer. It makes sense to
enhance your antioxidant levels. If you do, every
cell in your body will age less quickly. Knowing
your antioxidant level and knowing how to improve
it, may one day turn out to be as important or more
important than knowing your cholesterol level!
Our BIOPHOTONIC SCANNER measures the
carotenoid antioxidant level in palm tissue with an
LED light source. The scan takes 90 seconds; there
is no radiation. It measures whether you are eating
enough fruits and colored vegetables.
By having access to the scanner during your
recall visits, you‘ll be able to see if any
lifestyle changes you vow to make (improving diet,
limiting toxic exposures such as smoking and
excessive sunlight, lowering emotional stress,
etc.), actually increase your cellular antioxidant
level (a good thing). This is cutting edge science
developed at the University of Utah School of
Medicine that you should take advantage of if you
care to be healthier, avoid chronic ailments and age
less quickly. There is no down side and there is
no cost to you, “membership has its privileges”.
We now offer antioxidant scanning as part of
our initial and recall exams and are suggesting it
for all patients whose gums bleed. There is no
separate “scanning fee” when it is part of your
recall exam. Please, consider taking advantage
of this opportunity to be healthier and perhaps,
save money on your medical bills long term.
